The title is taken from the lyrics of the song
"The Twelve Days of Christmas"
This is is a cumulative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verses.
There are twelve verses, each describing a gift given by "my true love" on one of the twelve days of Christmas.
On the First day of Christmas my true love sent to me
a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
On the Second day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.
