Description
The first of two watercolour paintings "Peaceable Kingdom"A metaphorical image of organic shapes and forms which includes many birds, animals and human images. If you look closely besides many hidden human faces you will find fish, a fox, a hare and an owl. This painting imagines humans and animals, flora and fauna, transcending physical barriers and differences and living together in peace and harmony.
The most famous of "Peaceable Kingdom "paintings were by American folk painter Edward Hicks ( 1780 -1849) a distinguished minister of the Society of Friends, who became a Quaker icon because of his paintings.
