Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
Artist
Trudi Doyle
Medium
Painting - Watercolour
Description
Watercolour of a rustic interior, with my dog resting in his basket
A traditional Irish kitchen with a dresser full of ceramic ware, jugs, plates, mugs and bowls, a table with my collie dog Basil underneath it and sunshine pouring in through the doorway.
As a peace loving person I titled it "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie".... .it's often better to leave well enough alone if interfering might cause more harm than good ! Sometimes taking action can make things worse.
The earliest recorded version of this proverb "It is naught good a sleeping hound to wake." is found in English writer Geoffrey Chaucer's epic poem"Troilus and Criseyde" (1380)
