"Eostra Holds the Moon" ( subtitle " Transmigration" )
An Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostra was reputed to change into a hare on nights of a full moon.Eostra also had hares as attendants she was the goddess of Dawn.
It was this capacity to wink in and out of corporeal existence that allowed the celtic Moon Goddess Cerridwen who represented seasonal and human cycles of birth, life, death and rebirth to also adopt the shape of a hare.
In Celtic lore the hare was associated with transfiguration and transmigration - In one story the warrior Ossian hunted a hare and wounded it in the leg, forcing it to find sanctuary in a thicket. When Ossian followed, he found a door leading into the ground. He passed through into a vast hall finding himself in the presence of a beautiful young woman on a throne, bleeding from a wound in her leg.
In several cultures the hare was said to disappear when hunted..
