Artemis and the Wren-
Artist

Medium
Painting - Acrylic Painting
Description
Acrylic painting of Artemis the Greek goddess who is associated with several wild birds. As with most of my paintings it started with a vague idea and evolved .I have painted Artemis as a winter forest creature -I set it in dark moonlit winter with holly, ivy and mistletoe -a solitary time to seek out secret parts of ourselves that have long been neglected or forgotten.
She is also known as the moon goddess an important archetypal figure for young independent woman. I have painted her as a forest creature with a wren, one of Ireland's most widespread garden birds, its small rounded body and tiny cocked tail are distinctive, however it can be a surprisingly difficult bird to see - more often heard than seen and also on her shoulder the beautiful Barn Owl one of Ireland's most iconic bird species. They are in dramatic decline, now deemed to face an extinction threat but common in other parts of the world. They are active late at night, most frequently seen flying across roads in car head-lights. When seen they appear a ghostly white with no markings on the underwing.Their call is a loud shriek.
