The belief in guardian angels can be traced throughout all antiquity.
Pagans and Neo-Platonists held it.It was also the belief of the Babylonians and Assyrians, as their monuments testify, for a figure of a guardian angel now in the British Museum once decorated an Assyrian palace and might well serve for a modern representation.
In late Judaism the belief developed that people have a heavenly representative- every human being has a guardian angel.
There is a belief that angels can be guides and intercessors for men.
Christian mystics have at times reported ongoing interactions and conversations with their guardian angels, lasting several years.
There is a similar Islamic belief that each person has two guardian angels, one on each side.
