Watercolour of yellow Irises in my garden.
Also known as the Flag Iris, a wetland / bogland wild plant that is especially showy during its short blooming period. I lived for a while in County Kerry in the south west coast of Ireland where they were widespread in the wild boglands of the Dingle peninsula.
Flag Irises feature in our Irish folklore - for instance
"The cure for rheumatism was to heat flag iris roots, pour water on them, people who had rheumatism inhaled the warm vapour for a few minutes, then got into a tub of cold water. This cured rheumatism "'
Yellow flag irises or Iris pseudacorusis is a native to Europe and the British Isles, Ireland, North Africa and the Mediterranean region has been transplanted into well-watered gardens all over the world . It is also used in sewage treatment, and is known to be able to remove metals from waste waters.
I live in beautiful Ireland .I am inspired by mythology,memories, dreams, whimsical flights of fancy and by nature's beauty - with all it's related moods, My work is varied, sometimes abstract, often surreal..
