Description
The most colourful time of the year is also the season which ushers in the coldest and starkest time in nature. In the meantime we are given a delightful display of warm bright colours -a cornucopia of leaves, berries, fruit, mushrooms, seed heads fill the hedgerows, gardens and orchards with red orange yellows russet and scarlet.
Fall, Leaves, Fall by Emily Brontë
Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day.

You've beautifully captured the sense of impending transition, which I can relate to since here in my new home in Grand Rapids, fall has passed, and winter has arrived. I live on a lake, and this week a huge swan hung out for a couple of days, heading south, a wonderful site to see as it glided across the frigid water, with snow in the background. Lots of wild turkeys waddling through the snow, and skittish deer, with no leafy glades to hide in. Your work is so inspiring, and comforting, always a joy.
Trudi Doyle replied:
Dear Daniel - thank you for sharing your observations and word pictures of impending Winter in Grand Rapids I can see the swan in my minds eye - you should paint it ! Thank you also for your generous praise of my work - so happy you enjoy it !
