Artist's Description

Two Hares contemplate an Owl by Moonlight .
Hares are among my favourite wild creatures of the Irish countryside.- they are elusive, mysterious and intriguing .
Hare mythology exists throughout almost every ancient culture. There are many hare stories in Celtic mythology and storytellers still relate tales of women who can shape-change into hares.
Owls have also been regarded with fascination and awe, are feared and venerated, despised and admired, considered wise and foolish, and associated with witchcraft, birth and death.
Both creatures are nocturnal, hares also appear by day but are very difficult to observe because they are so shy and protect themselves by lying as still as a statue, with their ears pressed flat along their backs. Unlike rabbits, hares do not dig and burrow into the ground, but instead live their whole lives above ground, continually shifting from one place to another .
