Description
The Rivers Memories - watercolour
I lived in a house on the bank of the Barrow river in Ireland for four years and had a ringside seat to view the natural seasonal changes on the river and its banks and how the alluvium or silt ( fine soil left behind after a river floods )and fallen vegetation and trees can effect changes, including the direction of its flow and the shape of the bank. .Every river has a channel where it flows, a bed and two banks.but it does not remain permanently the same .
Thi sart piece was inspired by that time in my life although it was created many years later in my studio when I was living elsewhere .
In the history of mankind most settlements were built along major rivers.beause they provide us with food, energy, recreation, transportation routes, and of course water for irrigation and for drinking.
The philosopher Heraclitus used the idea of the river to illustrate a point "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man"
