Description
The Greek goddess Artemis was fierce in her protection of gentle animals that were usually preyed upon, she was associated with the natural world, the wilderness which symbolizes her own untamed spirit. This is a painting of a free woman and some of the wild creatures of Ireland that human beings feel they have a right to hunt for sport.
Despite Artemis's wildness and her fierce independence, she was always depicted as one of the compassionate, healing goddesses.
She was also known for her self-sufficiency, living life on her own terms.
