Description
Watercolour of a deserted village in Langduc Roussillion a beautiful region of France The village remains as it was when it was abandoned during WW2 due to a water shortage and because most of the male poulation had been lost in the war.
The abandoned village is in a beautiful but inhospitable landscape.
Locals told me that the water supply failed and the small number of inhabitants still living there left and never returned. There are restoration plans for the village which are slowly being put in place.
For a number of years I organised and tutored Painting Holidays in Opoul a village in Lanqudoc Roussillon in the south of France. I discovered this village in the hills nearby and have lovely memories of visiting and painting there.
I always brought my group to spend a day sketching and painting in and around this beautiful atmospheric place.
